Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of combined external fixators on tibial and fibular distal fractures. Methods A total of 52 patients with tibial and fibular distal fractures hospitalized in the People’s Hospital of Yongji, from June 2015 to May 2018, were selected as research objects. And they were divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 26 cases in each group. Patients in control group were given internal fixation with plate, and patients in observation group were given combined external fixators. The treatment effect and the recovery of the tibial and fibular distal fracture of the two groups were compared. Results The good rate of treatment in observation group (96.15%) was significantly higher than that in control group (76.92%), P<0.05. The fixation time, healing time and intraoperative blood loss in observation group were significantly shorter or less than those in control group (P<0.05). The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of the two groups were significantly decreased, and the quality of life (QOL) scores were significantly increased after treatment. The VAS scores of observation group were significantly lower than those of control group, but the QOL scores were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complication of observation group was 7.69%, which was significantly lower than that of control group (30.77%), P<0.05. Conclusions The efficacy of combined external fixators on tibial and fibular distal fractures is better, which can significantly shorten the fixation time and hospitalization time, reduce the postoperative pain and complications rate and improve the quality of life. It is worth promoting. Key words: Combined external fixators; Internal fixation with plate; Tibial and fibular distal fracture
