Abstract

An anti-depressant medication represents the best established treatment for all the type of depressive disorders. This study was conducted to estimate the combined effect of alpha lipoic acid with sertraline on CGI score in depressive patients. 30 patients were included in the study and divided in to two groups. The group-I was given sertraline (50-150mg/orally) and group-II was administered sertraline (50-150mg/orally) with alpha lipoic acid (200mg/orally) for 8 weeks. Two group’s patients were suggested to visit the psychiatric ward every 2 weeks to measure CGI score. All the data was collected and applied student ‘t’ test to find the statistical significant difference between groups. It was observed that gradual increase in CGI score in test group compared to control group. Same effect was observed in all the visits. Co-administration of alpha lipoic acid with sertraline decreases the CGI score in depressive patients. This combination can be used to treat depression with fewer side effects.
