Abstract

1. A difference in the irreversible change of length results from the heating ⇌ cooling cycle in the temperature range of phase transformations, depending on the degree of preliminary deformation. 2. The largest irreversible change in length in the process of the α→γ→α transformation occurs in undeformed samples. No irreversible changes in length during the α→γ→α transformation are observed in samples previously deformed 75%. 3. The effect of the degree of deformation on the irreversible change in length is due to the α→γ transformation during heating. 4. Preliminary tempering at 650° makes the irreversible change in length during phase transformation independent of the degree of preliminary deformation. 5. The irreversible change in length in the heating ⇌ cooling cycle resulting from different degrees of preliminary deformation may be one reason for warping during heat treatment.
