Abstract

The texture modifications induced by an α→β→α heat treatment of two alpha titanium sheets, cold rolled to different degrees are studied. The a textures inherited after annealing in the β field sharpen with the amount of cold rolling. After 90% deformation by cold rolling, this texture is mainly characterized by the (10.3)[1-2.0] component. The intermediate high temperature β textures have been evaluated by restitution methods developed in our laboratory and the transformation mechanisms during heating and cooling investigated. After 90% deformation by cold rolling, the inherited a texture cannot be simply deduced from the initial texture by a sequence of phase transformations occurring with strict orientation relation between lattices. The influence of the deformation imposed before heating on the final texture is demonstrated.
