Abstract
In this study, the effect of severe cold deformation on the texture evolution of as-cast (Ti55Zr25Nb10Ta10)99.5-Fe0.5 (TZNT-Fe, at%) alloy is investigated. The results demonstrate that with the increase of reduction, the intensity of α-fiber texture increases and a dominant {0 0 1}〈1 1 0〉 texture is developed. In addition, it is found that the increase in hardness after different cold-rolling stages is mainly attributed to the decrease of crystallite size, the increase of microstrain and grain refinement. Furthermore, the decrease in elastic modulus with the increase of cold reduction is related to the texture evolution. The cold-rolled TZNT-Fe alloy up to 90% can be developed to be a promising candidate for orthopedic implants due to its high hardness and low Young’s modulus.
