Abstract

Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of cold compress on patients′ eye comfort and corneal healing after pterygium excision. Methods Totally 88 cases of patients in the ophthalmology department of Changhai hospital in Shanghai from March 2015 to August 2015 who underwent pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. There were 44 patients in each group. After the surgery, the patients in the control group were given routine grade-2 nursing while the patients in the experimental group were treated with additional cold compress. The patients′ eye comfort and corneal healing after pterygium excision were compared between two groups. Results Patients′ eye comfort and corneal healing after pterygium excision in the experimental group were better than that of the control group at 2 hours and 24 hours after surgery (P<0.05). Conclusions Treatment with cold compress after pterygium excision and amniotic membrane transplantation can improve patients′ eye comfort and corneal healing which would help to improve patients′ satisfaction and bring convenience for nurses.
