Abstract

The manuscript contains data on the effect of the Co content on the magnetic properties of Zn0·3Ni0·7Fe2O4 spinels, in which Ni2+ ions are partially substituted by Co2+ ions. Ferrites were produced via solid-state reaction from a mixture of oxides. All samples are single-phase with a spinel-type structure (SG: Fd-3m). The linear increase in the lattice parameters with increasing cobalt content was explained by the difference in ionic radii Co2+/Ni2+. The effect of the Co2+ content on the magnetic characteristics of Ni–Zn ferrites was established. Curie temperature decreased from 419 °C to 326 °C with increasing Co content from x = 0.0 to 0.7, respectively. At the same time, an increase in Ms; Mr and Hc was observed due to the larger magnetic moment of the Co2+ ion in comparison with Ni2+. Non-linear concentration dependence of the magnetic characteristics was discussed in terms of the Co2+ spin states.
