Abstract

1. Cerium improves the mechanical properties of 15Kh1M1F steel. 2. The optimum concentration of cerium (calculated) is 0.1–0.15%. 3. The best results are obtained when cerium is added to the liquid metal before the end of smelting or to the metal in the ladle. 4. The addition of ferrocerium together with silicocalcium or ferrosilicon results in a more complete removal of nonmetallic inclusions. 5. Cerium has the optimum effect when it is added at 1500–1590°C and the metal is kept no more than 25 min in the ladle after the addition of ferrocerium.
