Abstract

Lithium–Zinc ferrite hollow microspheres (LiZn FHMs) doped with Ce and Mg were synthesized with Fe + Zn + Fe2O3 + O2 + Li2CO3 reactive system by using self-reactive quenching technology. Effect of Ce and Mg doping on the surface morphology, phase structure, and microwave absorption properties of LiZn FHMs were investigated in detail. The results indicate that the surface morphology of LiZn FHMs shows little variation after Ce and Mg doping and is still composed of unnoticeable multi-shape crystal. The phases are mainly composed of Fe3O4, Fe2O3, Li0.435Zn0.195Fe2.37O4 and Li0.5Fe2.5O4 without doping. The main phases remain unchanged with Mg doping, but CeO2 appears in the phase components with Ce doping. It can be concluded that the microwave absorption properties are improved by Ce doping due to the variation of the ferromagnetic resonance frequency. But those of Mg doping are reduced due to the introduction of non-magnetic Mg2+.
