Abstract

In order to investigate influences of catalyst buffer layers on the spectral emissivity of carbon nanotube (CNT) grown based on a floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition (FCCVD), we have evaluated the characteristics of CNTs grown on catalyst buffer layers made of aluminium oxide covering metal substrates by using shot blasting (SB) and electron beam evaporation (EB) methods, respectively. The comparisons of the microstructures and characteristics of the CNT carpets have indicated the influences of the morphology of the catalyst layer on the metal substrate. The emissivity, crystallinity, and purity of CNTs depends on the size of alumina particles used in the SB treatment.
