Abstract

Triple-doped ceria Pr0.08Sm0.08Gd0.08Ce0.76O2-δ (PSGC) and its carbonate nanocomposites Pr0.08Sm0.08Gd0.08Ce0.76O2-δ – (Na-K)2CO3 (PSGC–NK) were prepared through sol–gel auto combustion followed by solid state mixing methods. Prepared samples were sintered at 700 °C for 4 h. Confirmation of phase formation (single phase with cubic structure) and presence of amorphous phase in nanocomposite was carried out using powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD). Relative densities found to above 88% of their theoretical values. Surface features i.e. microstructural analysis of all the samples were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Elemental confirmation analysis was carried out using Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Electrical analysis carried out using Impedance spectroscopy. The nanocomposite i.e. PSGC–NK in the present study showed high value of total ionic-conductivity when compared to PSGC. Therefore, this triple-doped ceria–carbonate nanocomposite i.e. PSGC–NK material can be use as solid electrolytes in low temperature-solid oxide fuel cell (LT-SOFC) applications.
