Abstract
Cardiac muscle cells in culture have been used as a model system for various kinds of structural and biochemical studies. It is known that CO affects oxygen transport to the organ system of the body by binding with blood hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin and causes an overall tissue hypoxia. The effects of various concentrations of CO on the ultrastructure of myofibrils and mitochondria are examined in embryonic cardiac myocytes during differentiation in culture without complicating factors derived from the presence of a vascular supply system.
