Abstract

In this paper, Capacitive Energy Storage unit with deregulated power system having multiple sources of power is studied. Here we have considered two area power systems interconnected model with each area having hydro, thermal and gas sources respectively. Speed Governors are facilitated in each generating unit i.e thermal, hydro and gas. For studying the dynamic response for small load perturbation continuous time transfer model is considered. Capacitive energy storage (CES) unit is considered here to improve the transient performance of the system. The two area interconnected power system model is simulated with automatic generation control (AGC) and automatic generation control including CES unit. The dynamic behaviour of the system is compared to automatic generation control and automatic generation control including CES unit. The dynamic performance of the system improves significantly by considering CES unit in the two area interconnected power system model. Finally, it can be concluded that the model under consideration gives better results in the presence of CES unit.
