Abstract
In Japan fly ash cement concrete is rarely used because its strength development is slow. This study aims to improve early age strength development of fly ash cement concrete using cement with increased C3S content up to 72% manufactured at an actual cement plant. Compressive strength, heat of cement hydration, autogenous shrinkage, drying shrinkage and shrinkage cracking tendency were investigated. Thermal cracking resistance was simulated using 3D FEM thermal stress analysis model. It was established that increasing C3S content in base cement improves early age strength, drying shrinkage cracking tendency and thermal cracking resistance of fly ash cement concrete.
