Abstract

The effect of the bottom gating system design on filling rate of the chill mould by aluminum alloy is considered. Additional element of the system is proposed, which makes it possible to control the melt rate in the mould channels and to reduce the contamination of castings by oxides. The regularities of the effect of the additional element volume of the gating system on the maximum melt rate in the gate and the metal utilization factor are established. It is indicated that the optimal geometric dimensions of the additional element and the channel connecting it with the rest of the gating system depend on the configuration of the casting, its position in the mould, the location of the melt supply, and on the required law of speed variation in the gate.
