Abstract

EFFECT OF BOMBESIN ON RELEASE OF GASTRIN, CCK, SECRETIN AND PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION. M Miyata, S Guzma, PL Rayford, JC Thompson. Department of Surgery, The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. Bombesin has been show to stimulate pancreatic output of protein and to release gastrin and CCK. The present study was undertaken to determine whether the efiects of bombesin could be related to the dose of the peptide administered and whether bombesin released secretin. Methods Four doses of bombesin (0.125, 0.25, 1.0 and 2.0 ug/kg-hr, for 60 min) were infused into 4 conscious dogs with chronic pancreatic and gastric fistulas, which were kept opened during the study. Peripheral blood for measurement of gastrin, CCK and secretin (pg/ml) and pancreatic juice for volume (ml/15 mi), HC03(uEq/15 min) and protein (mg/15 min) were collected at regular intervals.
