Abstract

The masterbatch technique for blending was found to give rise to a slight improvement in properties of NBR/polyacrylic rubber blends although no phase adhesion was observed. Preblending improves in all technical properties as there is phase adhesion to a lower extent. Incorporation of carbon black does not change the above trend of phase adhesion. Preheating of the blends provides interchain crosslinking. Addition of ingredients after heating of preblends provides interchain crosslinkink with improved ageing and oil resistance but decrease in technical properties because of nonavailability of functional groups which are consumed in the chain crosslinking
