Abstract

Abstract Thermal and photo polymerizations of styrene (St) have been carried out in the presence of bis-(6-methylpyridazinyl)-3,3′-disulfide (I). I was found to initiate the photo polymerization of St but to retard the thermal polymerization of St. The chain transfer constants of I in the polymerizations of St and methyl methacrylate were determined to be 1.64 and 1.8 × 10−2, respectively, from which the Qtr and etr values were calculated to be 5.32 × 10−2 and 3.86, respectively.
