Abstract

In this study, we identified different strains of Bifidobacterium isolates from ten set of discordant monozygotic twin pairs who has more than 10% of differential BMI index and compared their strain‐specific anti‐obesity activities by using high‐fat diet‐induced obesity mouse model. C57BL/6 mice (n=13 per group) were orally administered with human‐derived bifidobacterial mixture (109 cfu/mouse, everyday) for 16 weeks. The changes in body weight, visceral fat mass, and insulin resistance showed no significant difference between the group fed with bifidobacteria from obesetwin and that from normal‐twin. The concentrations of circulating lipopolysaccharide (LPS), serum triglycerides, HDL/LDL cholesterol, and fecal bile acids, and the modulation of intestinal permeability and inflammatory response in visceral fat tissues were also investigated in relation to the modification of cecal microbiome using metagenomic analysis. This research was supported by R&D Convergence Center Support Program, Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Republic of Korea.
