Abstract

Aims: Atrial fibrillation (AF) leads to tissue remodeling with altered intercellular communication thereby stabilizing AF. Since the expression of the intercellular communication channel proteins (connexins) is regulated via beta-adrenoceptors, we wanted to elucidate whether beta blockers may affect the gap junction proteins connexin43 and connexin40 in atrial tissue from patients with/without atrial fibrillation (AF).
