Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Benson's relaxation techniques on blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. This study is a quasi-experiment using a pre/posttest design with a control group. A sample of 30 individuals at risk of diabetes was divided into intervention and control groups. Analyses were performed using frequency distribution and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Significant differences were found between the pre- and post-workout measurements in the intervention group (p=0.001) but not in the control group (p=0.291). Progressive muscle relaxation exercises comprised of 15min of movement at least three days a week can improve blood sugar levels and may help to improve a patient's belief.
