Abstract

The effect of the electron beam potential dip in high-power gyrotrons with overdimensional open cavities is studied theoretically. The gyrotron power and efficiency limitations due to the beam potential dip in the cavity are determined. Variations in the self-excitation conditions, efficiency, and optimal parameters are discussed for the case of ion compensation of the space charge of an electron beam in the short-pulse and long-pulse generation regimes.
