Abstract

Interplay between the basic chemical characteristics of soils of the Belarussian Polessie and the tightness of fixation of Chernobyl-derived 137Cs and 90Sr in them is studied. The mobility of radionuclides in the soil proved to be controlled essentially by the soil type and organic matter content. In the investigated soils, nonexchange sorption of 137Cs and exchange sorption of 90Sr dominate.
