Abstract

In this study, the effects of the tilt angle of bar magnets on the removal performance of SUS304 wear particles by an iron removal equipment using magnets were investigated, particularly for particles smaller than 50 μm. The removal performance was verified by mixing SUS304 wear powder with silica powder of various particle size distributions. Results revealed that the-removal performance was improved by tilting the bar magnet at an appropriate angle, as the deposited powder slid off intermittently and the bar magnet surface was exposed more frequently. Moreover, the particle size distribution of the captured magnetic particles revealed that high magnetic flux density magnets effectively capture small particles. Furthermore, the effect of the anti-powder deposition plate on the removal performance was studied. The results indicated that a bar magnet with an anti-powder deposition plate reduced the powder deposition, however, the removal performance deteriorated.
