Approximately 200 R. exulans and a few Rattus marmosurus, Rattus hoffmanni, and Rattus nitidus from other locations in the Napu Valley were not infected with S. japonicum. Eleven mature male specimens of S. japonicum had an average length of 10.5 mm (8.0-16.0 mm) and had an average of 6.5 (5-7) testes.
