Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of atorvastatin on vascular endothelial function and blood pressure in young and middle-aged hypertensive patients without complications. Methods Seventy-four young and middle-aged hypertensive patients with blood pressure controlled well and without complications were randomly divided into study group (37 cases) and control group (37 cases).Patients in both groups received amlodipine, metoprolol treatment, and diet control. In addition, patients in study group also received 20 mg of atorvastatin. After 8 weeks' treatment, changes of blood pressure, serum nitric oxide (NO),flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity(CFPWV) in the two groups were compared. Results Compared with the test data before treatment, the values of NO and FMD significantly increased, and the values of blood pressure and CFPWV significantly decreased after treatment in both groups (P < 0.05).Compared with the changes of control group, the changes of test indexes in study group were more significant(P <0.05).Conclusions Atorvastatin can improve the endothelial function and has certain antihypertensive effect for young and middle-aged hypertensive patients without complications,.
