Abstract

The rearrangement scheme of potassium salicylate (SA-K) to p-hydroxybenzoic acid (POB) in a stream of N2 was clarified by microthermal and UV analyses. In this paper, the effects of inert or active gases of atmospheric and elevated pressures which. are commonly used in this rearrangement was been investigated, The previously found rearrangement scheme, proceeding from SA-K to POB via 4-hydroxyisophthalic acid as a reaction intermediate, has been shown to hold for the rearrangement at elevated gaseous pressure.
