Abstract

Sheep oviduct fluids were studied to determine whether the presence of an IUD had any effect on the chemical composition of the fluids. The effect of oviduct fluids on ram sperm was also studied. IUD presence did not affect either volume or composition of oviduct fluid. Oviduct fluid from IUD-bearing sheep did not stimulate sperm respiration more than control oviduct fluid. There was a statistically significant (p less than .01) correlation between lactate content of oviduct fluid and sperm respiration. No histological changes were noted in IUD-bearing uteri.
