Abstract

In 1980 and 1981, 1.62 ha (4 acres) of corn was arranged into a 4 × 4 Latin square consisting of the following treatments: (1) carbofuran, (2) carbofuran and an alachlorcyanazine mixture, (3) an alachlor-cyanazine mixture, and (4) no pesticides. Carbofuran and the alachlor-cyanazine mixture were each evaluated for their effectiveness in reducing larval corn rootworm, Diabrotica spp., injury by rating damage to roots on a scale from 1 to 9. Carbofuran reduced root damage each year, whether used in conjunction with the herbicide combination or not. The herbicide combination significantly reduced root damage in 1980, but not in 1981.
