Abstract

The effect of a pH 4.74 buffered acetic acid/sodium acetate leaching solution has been studied with regard to a novel stabilizing matrix based on calcium trisulphoaluminate and silicate hydrates. The matrix was doped with soluble nitrates of lead and copper and the study was carried out by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. It has been found that the leaching medium had a strong effect on solidified samples, as the degree of polymerization of calcium silicate hydrate increases and calcium trisulphoaluminate hydrate decomposes giving off gypsum.
