Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy of amlodipine or hydrochlorothiazide combined with olmesartan on the blood pressure variability in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods Sixty elderly hypertensive patients were randomly divided into group A (n =30) and group B (n =30),and received amlodipine (5 mg) or hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg) combined with olmesartan (20 mg) respectively, one timea day,the treatment course was 8 weeks.By monitoring the blood pressure dynamicly, the blood pressure variability was compared between the two groups. Results The blood pressure variability was significantly lower in group A than that in group B (P < 0.01).Conclusions The combination of olmesartan and amlodipine have a stable reduction of blood pressure and variability of blood pressure. Key words: Blood pressure variability; Olmesartan ; Amlodipine ; Hydrochlorothiazide
