Abstract

Further studies on the effect of ambient atmospheric conditions during spinning on yarn properties are described in this paper. The results obtained indicate that maximum lea strength in the spinning room is obtained when yarns are spun at the highest level of relative humidity (76%) and lowest level of temperature (70°F); maximum strength under standard laboratory conditions is shown by yarns spun at the highest levels of relative humidity (76%) and temperature (91°F). Maximum yarn elongation under standard laboratory conditions is obtained with yarns spun at the lowest level of tem perature (70°F) and humidity (34%). Yarn properties are significantly influenced by spinning factors and absolute humidity of the spinning room, the extent of change being different for different types of cotton.
