Abstract

The introduction of 1 wt.% alumina into BiSrCaCu 2O y was found to lower the melting temperature and enrich the 110 K high- T c phase. The phenomenon was attributed to the enhanced liquid formation associated with the additive. The 110 K phase was favored only within a limited temperature range since sintering at lower temperature causes incomplete phase transformation and higher temperature results in decomposition, both leading to the 80 K phase.
