Abstract

A simple and inexpensive method to modify the surface of Ti–6Al–4V alloy by low oxygen partial pressure fusing (LOPPF) technology using Al–13 at.% Si alloy particles, has been proposed. The increase in the weight growth of the LOPPF Al–Si coating formation proceeds with fusing time in accordance with the parabolic law. After cyclic oxidation test at 1073 K for 150 h, a remarkable improvement of the oxidation resistance of the LOPPF Al–Si coating is obtained compared with Ti–6Al–4V alloy, however, for the LOPPF Al–Si coatings, prolonging the fusing time is adverse to improve their oxidation resistance.
