Abstract

This work has been undertaken in order to determine the effect of alloying with Cr, Zr and B additions on corrosion resistance of FeAl alloy in aqueous solution of sulfuric acid, at ambient temperature. Electrochemical investigations comprised classical methods combined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). EIS examinations have been carried out at the corrosion potential and confirmed the corrosion activation mechanism. The results have shown improved aqueous corrosion resistance of B2 iron aluminide after introduction of alloying elements. Based on the microstructure investigations, the pitting corrosion has been identified in the FeAl alloy, and intercrystalline corrosion symptoms have been observed in the Cr-, Zr- and B-doped FeAl alloy.
