Abstract

Chitosan (CS) film prepared by casting-evaporation method, was processed by alkali leaching. Structural characterizations of CS film before and after alkali leaching were measured by Fourier transform infrared reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Effect of alkali leaching to thickness, mechanical properties, water contact angle, water-solubility and swelling index of CS film were investigated. The results manifested that CS acetate was converted to CS through alkali leaching. Vibration intensities of covalent bonds was decreased by alkali leaching. After alkali leaching, thickness, water-solubility and swelling index of CS film decreased, meanwhile tensile strength, elongation at break and water contact angle of CS film increased. Mechanical properties and waterproofness of CS film was improved by alkali leaching. The research results could provide theoretical basis for the application of CS film after alkali leaching.
