Abstract

for quantification alveolar bone loss (ABL). ABL was determined by a) distance method, average of 6 linear measurements (mm,3 of each surfaces) from the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) to alveolar bone crest (ABC); b) area method (mm2), exposed molar root surfaces by CEJ and ABC. X-rays were used for periodontal bone support (PBS) measurements the most coronal part of the distal cusp, the bone crest top and the distal root apex (%). Statistical analysis: ANOVA-SNK (pb0.05). Results: a) t-chol: 68+12 mg/dl (C) vs.157+24 (HC)-pb0.001; b) ABLN in C+L and HC+L, HC+L produced a synergy, C-L and HC-L were similar [distance (mm):1.4+ 0.1(C+L)b1.6+0.1(HC+L), vestibular area (mm):2.9+0.4 (C+L)b3.8+ 0.5(HC+L)-pb0.001; c) PBS(%):48.3+5.6(C-L) N38.7+3.5(HC-L)=36.4+5.5(C+L) N 28.7+3.6(HC+L)-pb0.001. Conclusion: In adult rats, HC causes loss of interradicular bonemass (according to PBS) being comparable to that causedby a ligature. HCmay act as an aggravating factor in the severity of PD.
