Abstract

Reverse micelles have been formed for the first time with a two-tailed cationic surfactant, dioctyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DODMAC), in alcohol/isooctane. The effect of different alcohols and salts on the water uptake of the DODMAC reverse micelles is reported. The maximum water uptake obtained with DODMAC is two to three times larger than that obtained with the three-tailed cationic surfactant trioctylmethyl ammonium chloride (TOMAC).
