Abstract

Metals like steel are regarded as the foundation of industrial applications. Even after two centuries of intensive study and widespread use of steel in all spheres of life, new viewpoints in Steel Research continue to open up several doors for advances. The diverse research community worldwide has been inspired to look into new possibilities by the necessity to find new types of fluids with improved heat transmission capacities. It is essential to produce metals and metal oxide particles on a nanoscale due to advancements in nanotechnology. Experimental research is done on developing Al2O3/water nanofluids and their properties. The effects of an Al2O3 /water nanofluid-based quenchant are examined on the behaviour of mild steel. The mild steel quenched with 0.01 vol% nanofluids has been found to have higher tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, and lower elongation percentages. Compared to quenchants with various volume concentrations of nanofluids, the quenchant with 0.01 vol% nanofluids has superior mechanical characteristics. Due to increased particle sedimentation, the heat transmission rate reduces as nanoparticle concentration rises.
