Abstract

The effect of adsorbed triphenyl arsine oxide, tetraphenylarsonium and methyl-triphenylarsonium cations on the kinetics of representative ion-transfer (ITR) and electron-transfer (ETR) reactions, viz. the reduction of Cd 2+ and CrO 2− 4 ions respectively, has been studied by the dc polarographic method. The dependence of the apparent rate constants and the apparent charge-transfer coefficients on the surfactant concentration was employed for the elucidation of the reaction mechanism. Finally, an attempt was made to determine the nature of the electronic transitions.
