Abstract

Cortisol produced a 3-fold increase in tyrosine transaminase and tryptophan pyrrolase in the isolated, perfused rat liver. We did not obtain any evidence to indicate that cortisol metabolites had any effect on the enzyme activities in the isolated liver. These results suggest that the increase in tyrosine transaminase and tryptophan pyrrolase activities in cortisol-treated rats is due to a direct effect of this steroid on the liver.
