Abstract

The object of this study was to evaluate the impact of adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) following radical prostatectomy on urodynamic parameters. Urodynamic evaluation was performed on 10 men who underwent adjuvant RT following radical prostatectomy (study group; 4 studied both before and after) and was compared to 13 men who underwent radical prostatectomy alone (control group). The maximal detrusor pressure in the study group was significantly lower than that observed in the control group (75 vs. 33 cm water; P = 0.023). In those patients who were studied both before and after RT, a trend toward shorter functional profile lengths was observed (3.6 vs 3.0 cm; P = 0.061). In conclusions, RT following radical prostatectomy may alter sphincteric efficiency. Radiat Oncol Invest 1996;4:192–195. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
