Abstract
SummaryAcute cardiac overload induced in Wistar rats by aortic constriction resulted in an early (within 5 min) rise of intramyocardial cyclic 3′,5′-AMP levels and concomitant activation of myocardial prostaglandin synthetase. Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by indomethacin pretreatment prevented the increase in cyclic 3′,5′-AMP levels following aortic constriction, suggesting involvement of prostaglandins in the early response of the myocardium to acute overload.
