Abstract

The influence of higher harmonic generation due to acoustic nonlinearity on the rise-up profile of acoustic streaming is investigated. When two driving conditions with different higher harmonic content at identical driving force are set, the behavior of streaming under these conditions is experimentally compared. A thin film is used to eliminate the influence of acceleration. It has been believed so far that streaming rises more quickly as the generation of higher harmonics increases. However, the present analysis concludes that the rise-up profile of acoustic streaming is dependent only on the driving force and is independent of the relative higher harmonic contribution to the driving force. ©1998 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 3, 82(2): 66–75, 1999
