Abstract

Transient radiation field from a circular piston in a planar baffle is examined in the time domain when the impulsive plane wave impinges normally on the piston. An approximate solution of the pressure field generated by an impulse excitation of the circular piston is developed analytically at any position in the far-field, taking account of the reaction of the air on the piston. The deformation of the pressure field caused by the air loading on the piston is evaluated when one assumes the radiation impedance perunit area of the circular piston to be ρc, and it is shown that this ρc-approximation gives fairly good explanation for the process of the deformation of the pressure field.
