Efficacy of cryosurgery for treatment of prostate cancer is based on completely freezing the prostate and all malignant tissues. The image from this patient demonstrates aberrant periprostatic vascular anatomy featuring two vessels that created a "heat sink" that overcame the outer extension of the ice ball, resulting in potential incomplete freeze in the area of the vessels.
