Abstract

The onset of a spin density wave in quasi 1− d conductors is shown to yield two types of divergences in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation. The first divergence is similar to the Hebel-Slichter divergence near a superconducting transition, while the second is due to spin density fluctuations. The first mechanism may account for the anomalous proton spin-lattice relaxation rate observed recently near the metal-insulator transition of (TMTSF) 2PF 6.
