Abstract

In the flotation process of serpentine-containing copper-nickel sulfide ore, serpentine slime coatings significantly reduced the flotation performance of copper-nickel sulfide. Sodium phytate is a highly effective dispersant for MgO control in the flotation of copper-nickel ore. Compared with traditional dispersant sodium hexametaphosphate, grade and recovery improved from 6.86% Ni at 69.01% recovery to 8.03% Ni at 71.44% recovery and the MgO content decreased from 9.07% to 5.78% by using dispersant sodium phytate at a smaller dosage. Numerous PO functional groups in sodium phytate molecule could effectively disperse pentlandite/serpentine. The chemical adsorption occurred between PO groups in phytate molecule and Mg2+ ions on serpentine surface.
