Effect of a Handover Tool on Communication in the Labor and Delivery Unit During Hand-Off Reports

Abstract

This project is aimed at identifying the effect of implementing a standardized handover tool in the labor and delivery unit. Ineffective communication can lead to medical errors, compromising the safety and the quality of care in labor and delivery units. Situational awareness is required during the handover process to ensure that continuity of patient care is achieved by giving clear and concise patient information. This project supports the mission of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses by empowering nurses to make practice changes that will improve the care of women, newborns, and their families.
