Abstract
In the present paper the problem of an infinite plane, containing a circular cavity under uniform normal pressure and a straight crack, is considered. The solution consists of finding a set of two complex potentials r and T(Z) for the infinite plane. Complex variable technique is used to solve the problem. Crack problems were first introduced by A. A. GRII~FITI~. Later these were developed by other workers [2], [3], [4], et al. The problem of the stress field in the vicinity of a Griffith crack in a strip of finite width has been considered in [5]. The problem of an infinite plane containing circular holes of various sizes has been done in [1]. In the present paper we have combined the above two types of problems, i.e., the infinite plane contains not only a crack but also a circular cavity subjected to uniform normal pressure. The results obtained in this paper can be applied to a var iety of technological problems and metal forming processes which occur in practice.
